…Behind him, he heard the enraged roars of the Guardian Beast, the shouts of the disoriented Shadow Guard, and the piercing whine of arcane energy being unleashed. He had bought himself precious seconds, but the Emperor's shadow was long, and his hunt was far from over. As he stumbled forward into the unknown, the weight of his escape, and the dawning realization of the power he had defied, settled heavily upon him. He had escaped the dungeon, but he was far from free. The Eternal City, and its vengeful Emperor, would not forget him.
