…With a final click, the gate swung inward. They plunged through, not daring to look back. The sounds of the Eternal City, a symphony of controlled chaos and unleashed fury, faded behind them as they ran into the unknown darkness beyond its walls. Archius’s lungs burned, his muscles screamed, but his spirit soared. He was a prisoner no more. He was free. But he knew, with a chilling certainty, that Emperor Valerius would not forget this defiance. The Eternal City, and its tyrannical ruler, had marked him. And the chase, he knew, was far from over.
