…As they prepared to leave the archives, a faint, distant tremor ran through the stone beneath their feet. It was subtle, barely perceptible, but Archius felt it, a primal awareness honed by years of battle. He looked at Lyra, his eyes questioning. “The city,” she whispered, her own face paling slightly. “They’re searching. They know we’re here.” The hunt was on. Archius tightened his grip on the hilt of the short sword he’d managed to procure, his mind already racing ahead, mapping out their escape route, the dangers that lay before them. The silence of the archives was broken by the growing urgency in his heart. The Eternal City was closing in.
