…He was so close to the airlock, just a few meters away, when the Devourer finally shattered. A deafening roar, a sound that ripped through the vacuum and reverberated through his very bones, shook the fabric of space itself. A blinding flash of white light engulfed everything. He was thrown forward, slammed against the Serpent’s outer hull. His vision went white, then black. He heard Aurora’s voice, faint, distorted, then nothing. He drifted in the darkness, a single, broken thought echoing in his mind: Did it work?
