…Monster bears. Their fur was matted and dark, their claws like daggers, and their eyes glowed with a primal hunger. The children gasped, their breath catching in their throats. The air crackled with danger. Elmsworth’s staff pulsed brighter, but the sheer number and ferocity of the creatures were overwhelming. The goblins chittered and lunged, the goons advanced with menacing intent, and the monster bears let out another earth-shattering roar, their massive forms blocking the only way forward. Lily felt a surge of pure terror, the kind that threatened to paralyze her. The woods, once a place of forbidden wonder, had become a nightmare. They were trapped. Utterly, hopelessly trapped.
