…He gestured towards the back door, his urgency palpable. Outside, the sounds of the forest seemed to deepen, the wind whispering secrets through the pines. Max, usually so boisterous, was uncharacteristically silent, his eyes darting between Luna and his father. A knot of fear tightened in Luna’s stomach as she clutched the box tighter. This wasn't a game; this was real. Kal scooped up Jordan, his movements swift and sure. "Lee, take Luna and Max. We’ll meet at the old crossing." Without another word, Kal was out the door and into the inky blackness, Jordan a small bundle in his arms. Alpha Lee took Luna’s hand, his grip firm yet gentle. "Come, children. We must hurry."
