Their shadows, cast by the flickering candle, merged on the wall behind them—one dark, one light, intertwined. The future was uncertain, the cost unknown, but in that moment, they were no longer predator and prey. They were partners. And somewhere in the misty void, the Whispering Elder watched, and smiled.
