…“I feel… human,” he said, the words strange on his tongue. “But I am still a monster.” She took his hand, holding it to her heart. “You are not a monster. You are a man who has been cursed. And we are going to break it.” He looked from his hand to her face, and for the first time, he felt a flicker of hope. But it was mingled with dread. The full moon was rising, and the ritual would come. He had tasted her blood, and the curse was beginning to break—but it was also beginning to consume him. The transformation was not yet complete, and the hunger still prowled beneath his skin. He held her closer, his eyes fixed on the dark stone above, waiting for the dawn that would bring the moon.
