…Elara picked up the knife. "I am ready." Valerius took her hand, his fingers cold against her warm skin. "Elara... if I lose you, I will not survive." She looked at him, her eyes reflecting the flickering light. "You will not lose me. I am right here." She placed the knife in his hand, guiding it to her wrist. "Do it, my love. Break the curse." The moonlight streamed through the crack above, illuminating the chalice, which seemed to glow with a soft, silver light. Valerius held the knife, his hand trembling, his heart tearing between hope and terror. He looked at Elara, at the trust in her eyes, and he knew there was no turning back. He pressed the blade gently to her skin.
