…The burly man’s expression shifted. He looked at his companions, then back at the vagrant. “A vampire, you say? And a woman? We’ve heard tales of such things. Might be worth a look.” The vagrant nodded eagerly. “You’ll see. I’ll take you there.” As they gathered their weapons and torches, the vagrant smiled. He had found his purpose. He would be the one to rid the world of the monster. Back in the crypt, Valerius held Elara close, unaware of the danger that was already marching toward them. The shadows of his past had not yet released their grip, but for the first time, he believed he could fight them. The night was far from over.
