…Valerius pressed himself against the wall of a building, hidden in the shadows. His hunger sharpened, his fangs lengthened, his eyes glowed with a crimson fire. He watched her, and for the first time since awakening, he felt a surge of anticipation. Prey. He smiled, a fanged smile, and whispered to the night: "At last, a worthy meal." But as he took a step forward, something stirred in his chest—a hesitation, a whisper of doubt. He did not understand it. He did not care. He was a predator, and she was his prey. That was all that mattered. The night closed around him, and the hunt began.
