…If I was a weapon, then I would choose my own target. If I was a pawn, then I would refuse to be moved. The path ahead was shrouded in uncertainty, a treacherous terrain of manipulation and hidden agendas. But for the first time, the choice felt like it might actually be mine to make. The veils of deceit were lifting, and though the truth was painful, it was also liberating. I was no longer just Elise, the weapon of Verdigard. I was Elise, the woman who was finally beginning to see. And that, in itself, was a dangerous new beginning.
