He knew, with a certainty that settled deep in his bones, that he’d be visiting them again soon. Perhaps, he mused, he’d bring them a small, specially baked treat. A little thank you, from one baker to another. And as the scent of his unconventional cake filled the hall, a wave of laughter, light and effervescent, began to ripple through the crowd. It was a sound that chased away all remaining woes, a testament to the magic of a morning laugh, and a perfectly surprising bake.
