…When her breathing finally steadied, he finally spoke, his voice still low. “You should tell me if it gets this bad.” She gave him a tired look, her eyes still a little unfocused. “You say that like I’m going to enjoy the experience.” His mouth twitched once, the barest hint of a smile that was closer to an acknowledgment of her wit than amusement. It was the closest thing to a smile she had seen from him, and for some reason, that small thing did more to unsettle her than the storm itself.
