…Their tails wagged furiously, a silent testament to their joy, their pride, and the sweet satisfaction of a mystery solved. The night was alive with light, with sound, with the vibrant pulse of a celebration that had been on the brink of disaster, but was now, thanks to the Spookyween Detective Agency, shining brighter than ever. The cheers of the crowd, a roaring wave of appreciation, washed over them, and for the three silly puppies, it was the sweetest sound in the world. The Fourth of July Fiasco had become the Fourth of July Finale, a dazzling testament to bravery, deduction, and the undeniable power of a good sniff.

The day began, as so many adventures do, beneath a blue and cloudless sky. The sun had barely lifted its golden head over the rooftops of Maple Street, but already the whole town of Pineberry was buzzing. Flags fluttered on every porch. Children raced past with popsicles and pinwheels, their laughter floating through the air like confetti. There was talk, everywhere, of tonight’s legendary fireworks display at the green by the lake.

Inside the modest, slightly lopsided headquarters of the Spookyween Detective Agency—a converted garden shed, complete with a creaky sign and a faint smell of peanut butter—three puppies and one honorary captain were already hard at work. There was Dottie, the spotted brainiac, nose buried in her notebook; Russo, part beagle, part mystery, and all heart; Baby Blue, the littlest, with a tail that seemed to have a life of its own; and, of course, Captain Zoomie, the black and white whirlwind of energy who could sniff out trouble from a mile away.

Today, however, was supposed to be about snacks and sunbathing, not sleuthing. Mrs. Maple, the kind neighbor, had just delivered a tray of star-shaped biscuits. The puppies—tails wagging, eyes shiny—were on their best behavior, for the scent of peanut butter was strong and tempting.

But then it happened. The flap of their HQ door burst open with a frantic bang, and Timmy, the town’s paperboy, tumbled in, breathless and wild-eyed. "It’s Mr. Sparkle! He’s… he’s out cold! And the fireworks—gone! They’re all gone!"

The puppies jumped up. Captain Zoomie barked orders. "Russo, to the scene! Dottie, bring your notebook! Baby Blue, you’re with me!"

They raced through the dew-damp grass, paws thudding, hearts thumping, a trail of biscuit crumbs left behind. The town green was already ringed with caution tape, and a small crowd had gathered around Mr. Sparkle’s booth. There, under a red-and-white striped awning, Mr. Sparkle himself lay slumped in his folding chair, eyes closed, a half-eaten sandwich dangling from his limp hand.

The crate that held the famous Pineberry Fireworks was empty, but for a peculiar dusting of glitter and a whiff of something flowery—lavender? Captain Zoomie sniffed the air, then looked sternly at the crowd.

"Someone didn’t want fireworks tonight," Dottie murmured, scribbling notes furiously. "And someone wanted us to know it."

Suddenly, Mrs. Higgins appeared, waving her gardening gloves. "Oh, dear, is Mr. Sparkle going to be all right? I tried to give him some of my lavender oil to calm him down, but—oh! I simply cannot bear all this noise and confusion!"

Before Dottie could ask more, a loud crash came from behind the lemonade stand. Baby Blue darted forward, paws skidding through spilled sugar, and caught the faint outline of a tail disappearing behind the stage. The puppies exchanged glances. The case wasn’t quite solved after all.

Captain Zoomie signaled, tail held high. They crept around the side of the stage, only to see—a pair of muddy footprints, a trail of sparkling ribbon, and a mysterious shadow ducking behind the fireworks storage shed. The puppies froze, breath silent, every sense tingling. Was the real culprit still here? And just what were they up to?

Behind the shed, the shadow paused, then began to rummage furiously inside a battered duffel bag. The air was thick with the scent of mischief, lavender, and just a hint of burnt toast.

The Spookyween Detective Agency crouched low, ready for action, as the shadow straightened, head turning, as if sensing their gaze—caught in the act, with nowhere left to run.
