…Chio Heesung stood in the grand foyer, the weak afternoon sun slanting through the grimy windows, illuminating motes of dust dancing in the stillness. It was a different stillness now, not the charged, expectant quiet that had preceded Min’s spectral appearances, but a profound, settled peace. Heesung ran a hand over the smooth, cool banister of the staircase, the same one he’d stumbled down in a panic more times than he could count. He remembered the chilling whisper that had followed him, the prickle of unseen eyes, the sudden, icy dread that had gripped him whenever Min was near. Now, there was only a faint echo, a ghost of a memory, like the scent of rain after a storm has passed
